Designing your Perfect Living Room and Choosing a Sofa

If you are moving to a new house or are planning to improve your current one, then replacing the furniture is one of the first things that you are likely to think of doing. In the living room, the sofa is probably the most important item of furniture, and it is important to choose one that is not only practical and comfortable but one that also goes with the overall look and style of your room.

First of all, you will need to decide on the style of the room and also decide on a colour palette. This can really help you when you are choosing what you want in the room, from furniture to flooring. Creating a mood board and putting all the things that you like into one place can help you to decide on a style too, so spend some time doing this before you do anything else. That way, you will be able to get a vision for what you want the room to look like when it is finished.

Once you have done this, have a look at colours – you can test out colours that you might like and see how they go together by getting paint tester pots and fabric swatches. This is a great way to see how the colours go together in real life and also helps you to decide whether you can live with that colour or how much of it you want in the room.

Once you have decided on the colour and the style of the room, you can then start to look at sofas, and you will find that you have a much clearer idea of what you are looking for. As well as the colour and the style, you also need to consider what will work for your living room practically. The size and shape of the room and your lifestyle are things to be taken into account here. Bear in mind the fabric of the sofa and how easy it is to clean if you have kids or pets too.

Sofa styles vary widely – if you are a fan of the retro styles, then you might want to opt for a vintage style sofa, or it might be that you want something more sleek and modern.
