Looking to refine your wedding etiquette ahead of your friend or family member’s big day? Here’s our guide to being the perfect wedding guest:
Timing is everything
First things first – be punctual! Check and double check the invitation and plan your route to make sure you arrive in plenty of time. You don’t want to be the latecomer who misses the bride’s big entrance or slows down the ceremony – so take care to plan ahead.
Don’t upstage the bride
Of course, you’ll want to look and feel your best. When you’re choosing between wedding guest dresses, such as those available from Oh Hello Clothing – //ohelloclothing.com/collections/wedding-guest-dresses – opt for both comfort and style, but never choose anything white, cream or ivory. It’s also best to avoid the colour that the wedding party will be wearing so you don’t get mistaken for a bridesmaid! We’d recommend opting for a floaty, floral look in summer or a structured, statement gown for the cooler months. You don’t have to tone down your style, just make sure you’re not about to upstage the bride’s big moment!
Follow the dress code
If your wedding invite sets out a specific dress code, don’t go off-piste – stick to the rules! After all, this day is all about the bride and groom, so keep their wishes in mind whilst you’re shopping for your wedding guest outfit. If they’ve requested you wear or avoid a specific colour, abiding by their request will avoid a faux pas.
Be comfortable
Don’t pull out those skyscraper heels. They might look stunning, but a broken ankle or painful blisters will make the day difficult, for both you and the bride and groom. That’s not to say you shouldn’t make a statement with your footwear, but keep it comfortable and don’t forget the blister patches.
Remember your gift
Don’t turn up empty handed – take care to check the invite for any details about wedding gifts. Try to pick a thoughtful gift, in line with the couple’s wishes, that they’ll treasure.
