The things you need to take with you for a bouldering session.
Footwear
Hire shoes are perfect for your first visit, but for subsequent sessions, it’s worth investing in your own pair of climbing shoes. Make sure you break them in at home a few evenings before your session to make sure they feel comfortable on the wall.
Chalk and Chalk Bag
Chalk – Climbers use chalk to keep the moisture off their hands and their grip on the holds. A chalk ball is the best form of chalk for indoor bouldering walls as it produces the least amount of dust. Many climbers carry their chalk in a chalk bag which can be attached to their harness or left on the floor next to the problem they are attempting.
What to Wear
Remember that fitted clothing is better than baggy for bouldering as it doesn’t get caught in holds or restrict movement. For example, good bouldering clothing would be; leggings or joggers (that are slim fitting) and a close-fitting t-shirt.
Skin Care Kit
If you are planning to climb regularly bring a small skin care kit, such as a nail file and some finger tape. This will help prevent damage to your skin and help aid recovery of any damaged areas. If you are new to exercise and climbing look out for advice on how to look after your skin and joints whilst exercising.
Recovery Essentials
A water bottle to keep you hydrated, a light snack to refuel after your session to keep your energy up, and a towel to wipe your chalky hands in the car. If you are travelling to the area, it is worth checking out Bouldering Birmingham as well.
Go well-equipped and get the most from your climbing sessions!
